New Focus

I would like to switch focus of the blog and hopefully generate some traffic here. I plan on listing cases in Utah (and throughout the country) addressing the recent changes of the bankruptcy law. I will also still include any funny events that come up.

Today Junior

I love judges, especially federal judges. This one is out of Texas where the judge quotes an infamous passage from the Adam Sandler movie, Billy Madison. Classic.

Rave Party Loses in Court

This is an interesting legal argument. Ok so the SWAT team might have been a little overkill, but I do not see how you can ask the court to prevent the police from breaking up a future party. For example, may gets falsely accused and arrested, then gets restraining order preventing police from bothering him, and then really goes out and breaks the law. Like I said, maybe a little over reaction by the police, but just get your permits!!!

Typos call kill you

Be careful what you type. Interesting story about a guy who needed to postpone a trial for what might be painful surgery. A little proof reading might have been in order.

Tyco Execs

So just heard that the Tyco guys got their sentence. Not only do they get the privilege of going to jail but they get to pay restitution of $134 Million. Nice. If you think about it, these guys hurt hundreds if not thousands of people. People missing then pensions, just so some guy could have a marble bathroom.

Utah Law Blog

Utah Law Blog
So driving to work today and I hear this story on the radio about a lady, Sophia (or Sofia) Stewart, who claims to have written the Matrix. She told a pretty compelling story about how her case is scheduled for trial and how she is going to get billions. Being curious, I checked the central district of California's court docket where the case is pending and she seems to be full of it. Yea a scheduling order was entered a while ago setting the date of the trial for July, but her attorney's just filed an amended complaint (the document that just starts the lawsuit) I do not see how there is anyway that she will be going to trial anytime soon. Also, on the radio she claimed to have filed the suit in 1999. The docket says she filed it in 2003. Interesting!

Law school

Received some comments about law school. First off, I thought law school was interesting. There are about 150 students, and you spend three years together. Kind of like a grown up high school, which can be good or bad depending on the people at your school. Least favorite thing, studying for exams. Law school is all or nothing, one final for the whole grade. Other than that school wasnt too bad. I have thought about writing a book or something about lawschool but now that I have started work there is no time.
